When Parents Are Falling Through the Cracks: LBC Highlights Child to Parent Abuse

Trigger warning: please be mindful that this article contains triggering and graphic content

Over the weekend, LBC published an important article looking at mothers experiencing violence and abuse from their sons, and the warnings that can sometimes be missed before situations escalate.

It’s a difficult read, but it’s an important one.

For families living with Child to Parent Abuse, fear can become part of everyday life. Parents can be frightened in their own homes, worried about what might happen next, sometimes frightened to reach out because they simply don’t know what will happen when they do.

We hear from parents who have asked for support. Parents who have told professionals their stories. Parents who have said they are frightened, that things are getting worse, or that they simply feel they cannot keep their family safe anymore.

But still, too often they aren't truly heard or listened to.

That is the reality of "falling through the cracks"

As Michelle John, PEGS Founding Director said in the article parents are “falling through the cracks”

Behind every parent asking for support is a family trying to navigate something they never imagined they would experience.

We are grateful to LBC for highlighting CPA and for giving space to the experiences of parents and professionals working to create change.
