"The word Summit reflects the scale, ambition, and national reach of the event, bringing together professionals, families, advocates, researchers, and people with lived experience to share knowledge, inspire change, and shape the future for families experiencing Child to Parent Abuse"
- Michelle John, MBE - Founder of PEGS
Making change together
Child to Parent Abuse can have a serious and lasting impact on parents, carers, children and the wider family.
However, CPA is still frequently misunderstood, overlooked or treated as a parenting problem rather than a form of harmful, threatening, controlling or abusive behaviour.
Parents and carers may struggle to find appropriate help, while professionals can encounter gaps in policy, guidance, training and specialist support.
ACT 2026 will bring different sectors together to examine these challenges and ask an important question:
How can we create stronger responses and safer futures for families experiencing Child to Parent Abuse?
The summit will explore what needs to change, what effective practice can look like and how services can work more collaboratively to support families.
The focus of ACT 2026
Policy, criminal justice and stronger responses
This year’s Child to Parent Abuse Summit will place particular emphasis on policy and criminal justice.
Attendees will explore the challenges involved in recognising and responding to CPA when there is no single, consistent approach across services.
The programme will consider how policy, criminal justice, safeguarding and early intervention can better reflect the complex realities experienced by families.

Professional learning
Why should professionals attend?
Child to Parent Abuse does not sit neatly within one service or professional area.
A family may come into contact with the police, social care, schools, mental health services, domestic abuse organisations, health professionals and family support teams.
When those services do not share a consistent understanding of CPA, parents and carers can be passed between organisations, blamed for the behaviour or left without an appropriate response.
The summit is not only an opportunity to increase awareness. It is an opportunity to help shape better responses.
