A day in the life at PEGS: Administrator
Hi, I’m Paige, I’m 32, and I work as an Administrator at PEGS. Every day is slightly different, but there’s one thing I can always guarantee there’s plenty to keep me busy!
I thought I’d take you through what a typical morning and early afternoon looks like for me at PEGS, from the moment I log on until around half past two.
Starting the Day.
My day starts with logging on and getting myself settled in. Before I dive into the workload, I always make sure I say hello to everyone. It might seem like a small thing, but having a friendly start to the day makes such a difference, especially when you’re working as part of a team.
Once I’ve said my hellos and got my coffee ready, it’s time to get stuck into the admin inbox.
Checking the Admin Inbox
The first thing I do is go through the admin inbox and work through anything that has come in.
There can be all sorts of requests waiting for me, particularly relating to referrals. I make sure everything is looked at, dealt with correctly and passed on to the right place where needed.
Keeping on top of the inbox is really important because behind every email or request is a family who may be waiting for support. So although it’s technically “admin”, I always remind myself that the work I’m doing has a real person and family behind it.
Referrals, Referrals and More Referrals!
After getting through the initial admin, the majority of my day is spent working on referrals.
This is a really important part of my role. I go through the information we receive, process the referrals and make sure everything is in place so we can understand what support a family may need.
It can be quite detailed work, so I need to stay organised and make sure I don’t miss anything. Some days there are lots of referrals to work through, which definitely keeps me on my toes!
Speaking to Parental Figures
One of the most important parts of my job is contacting parents.
Once we’ve looked at the referral and established what support is available, I speak with parents to explain what level of support they may be eligible for and what that support could look like for them and their family.
I really enjoy this part of my role because it’s where the admin side of my job connects directly with the people we’re here to help.
For some parents, knowing what support is available can make a huge difference. Being able to explain things clearly, answer questions and help them understand the next steps is something I’m really proud to be part of.
And Before I Know It… It’s Half Two!
By the time I look at the clock, it’s often around half past two already!
It’s amazing how quickly the day goes when you’re busy. Between emails, referrals, organising information and speaking with parents, there’s rarely a dull moment.
Being an Administrator at PEGS might involve a lot of organisation and paperwork, but it’s so much more than that. Every referral represents a family, and every bit of admin helps us get the right support to the people who need it.
That’s what makes my job so rewarding.
