A Day in the Life at PEGS: Social Media
Social media plays an important role at PEGS. It’s not just about sharing posts... it’s about connection, awareness and making sure those who are experiencing child to parent abuse, know they are not alone.
Through our platforms Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, LinkedIn, YouTube, and future work on TikTok - we reach parents, carers, professionals and wider communities who may be seeking support, information, or simply reassurance. For many, social media is the first place they find us.
We’re incredibly grateful to receive so many kind, supportive messages. Alongside those are messages that are harder to read, messages filled with fear and isolation. Child to Parent Abuse (CPA) is still so widely misunderstood, and for many families it’s something they’ve never felt able to speak about openly. That’s why raising awareness, amplifying voices and collaborating with like-minded professionals matters so much.
In 2025 alone, our content reached over 1.2 million views. And if even one of those views helped someone feel seen, believed, or less alone then we’ve already done our job.
So, what does a day in the life look like?
Most mornings start with checking notifications, new messages, comments, tags, shares and mentions. Some need practical responses, others need care, sensitivity and a listening ear. Alongside this, there’s our peer support group: approving new members through PEGS referral IDs, reviewing posts waiting for moderation and making sure the space remains safe, supportive and respectful for parents and carers. It's so important to make sure each and every parent in our group feels comfortable and safe.
Content scheduling is another key part of the role. This ensures families don’t miss information about practitioner sessions, workshops or programmes especially those within peer support. Everything we share is shaped by PEGS’ four pillars:
-Supporting parental figures
-Raising awareness of CPA
-Upskilling professionals
-Influencing policy
These pillars guide our language, our messaging and the way we show up online always centring the voices and experiences of those we support.
The role goes beyond posting. It includes writing and uploading blogs, supporting the team to create resources such as webinars, presentations and workshops, contributing to creative projects, and also helping with training. Communication and language is essential in this role, which is why it’s supported by training in domestic abuse awareness, wellbeing, safeguarding and trauma-informed practice - alongside social media training.
No two days are ever the same. Some days involve attending events, in-person interviews or media work with our director Michelle. Others include training sessions, conferences or meetings with collaborators. Every part of the role feeds into the same purpose: making sure CPA is understood, spoken about and responded to effectively.
Working behind the scenes at PEGS is a privilege. It’s about care, responsibility and holding space even through a screen. Because for so many families, that screen is the first place they feel safe enough to reach out.
